GasIQ is built on radical honesty about your data. Here is the short version, and it is the most important sentence on this page: we never sell your driving, location, or financial data — to anyone, for any reason.
The honest-app commitments. No insurance-data SDK is hidden in this app. We do not track you across other apps or websites. Free-tier ads use Apple's privacy-preserving SKAdNetwork only — no advertising identifier (IDFA), no cross-app tracking, and no App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt, because we have nothing to ask permission for. Most of your data lives on your device, not on our servers.
This Privacy Policy explains what GasIQ collects, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. GasIQ is published by VelaVia, LLC (“VelaVia,” “we,” “us”), Sacramento, California, USA. It applies to the GasIQ mobile app (bundle ID io.velavia.gasiq) and the related site at velavia.io/gasiqai. GasIQ is launching on iOS first, with Android to follow.
What we collect, and why
We collect only what GasIQ needs to do its job — help you find good gas prices and make smart fuel decisions. Here is the full list.
Location
With your permission, GasIQ uses your approximate and precise device location to find nearby gas stations and to plan and estimate fuel for routes. You control this in your device settings, and you can turn it off at any time (some features that depend on nearby stations will be limited without it). We do not build long-term location histories to profile you, and we never sell your location.
Vehicle details
You can tell GasIQ about your vehicle — year, make, model, MPG, tank size, and preferred fuel grade — so the app can estimate range, fuel cost, and savings accurately. This information is used to power the app's calculations and is tied to your profile.
Fill-up logs
When you record a fill-up, GasIQ stores the details you enter: gallons, price, total, odometer reading, and optionally a receipt or pump photo. These logs power your savings history, MPG tracking, and fuel-decision insights.
Receipt and pump photos
If you add a photo of a receipt or pump, GasIQ uses it to read the gallons, price, and total for you automatically. To do this, the image is sent to our AI vision provider, OpenAI, solely to extract those numbers via optical character recognition (OCR). The photo is not used by GasIQ to train any models. Reward-program preferences
You can tell GasIQ which fuel reward or membership programs you use so it can factor them into price comparisons. This is stored as a preference on your profile.
GasIQ uses passwordless sign-in, so we collect your email address to identify your account and send you a sign-in link. We do not store a password for you.
Device and diagnostic data
Like most apps, GasIQ may process basic device and diagnostic information (such as device type, app version, and crash or performance data) to keep the app working and to fix bugs.
Where your data lives: local first, sync when you sign in
GasIQ is designed to be local-first. Most of your data — your vehicle profile, fill-up logs, and savings — stays on your device. You can use much of the app without an account.
When you sign in, your fill-ups, profile, and savings sync to GasIQ servers (operated for us at velavia.io) so you can back them up and access them across sessions and devices. If you do not sign in, that syncing does not happen.
Third parties we share data with
We share data only with the service providers needed to run GasIQ, and only for the purposes described here. We do not sell your data to any of them or to anyone else.
- Apple App Store and Google Play — process subscriptions and billing. We never see your full payment details.
- OpenAI — reads gallons, price, and total from receipt or pump photos you choose to upload (OCR only).
- Unity Ads — serves ads to free-tier users using Apple's SKAdNetwork only (see below).
- OpenStreetMap / Overpass and Photon / Nominatim — provide gas-station and address data for search and mapping.
- NHTSA — provides vehicle recall information.
- Web hosting provider — hosts our servers and the synced data described above.
Ads, tracking, and the SKAdNetwork-only promise
If you are on the free tier, GasIQ shows ads through Unity Ads. We deliberately use the most privacy-preserving setup available: ads are attributed using Apple's SKAdNetwork only. That means:
- No IDFA — we do not access your device's advertising identifier.
- No cross-app or cross-site tracking — your activity is not followed around other apps or websites.
- No ATT prompt — because we do not track you in the sense Apple defines, there is no App Tracking Transparency permission to ask for.

What we never do
- We never sell your driving, location, or financial data.
- We do not include any insurance-data SDK or share data with insurers.
- We do not use your photos or fill-up logs to train AI models.
- We do not track you across other apps and websites.
Data retention
Data stored locally on your device stays there until you delete it, remove the app, or reset the device. Data you sync to our servers by signing in is kept for as long as your account is active, so the app can show your history and savings. When you delete your account, the server-synced data tied to it is permanently removed (see below). Receipt and pump photos are sent to OpenAI only to extract the numbers and are handled under OpenAI's terms; GasIQ retains the extracted values with your fill-up logs, not for model training. We may retain limited records where required by law or to resolve disputes.
Deleting your account and data
You are always in control of your data.
- In the app: go to Profile → Delete account. This permanently removes your account and the data synced to our servers.
- By email: you can also request deletion by writing to tommy@velavia.io, and we will take care of it.
- On-device data: deleting the app removes data stored locally on your device.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections for data synced to our servers and access controls on those servers. The local-first design also limits exposure by keeping most data on your device. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your data safe and to fix issues promptly.
Children
GasIQ is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact tommy@velavia.io and we will delete it.
California and U.S. users: your rights
If you live in California or another U.S. state with privacy rights, you may have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, to request that we delete it, to correct it, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. Because we do not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, there is no “Do Not Sell or Share” choice to make — that is already our default. To exercise any of these rights, use the in-app Delete account option or email tommy@velavia.io. We will not discriminate against you for making a request.
International data transfers
VelaVia, LLC is based in the United States, and our servers and service providers (such as OpenAI and our hosting provider) process data in the United States. If you use GasIQ from outside the U.S., you understand that your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, which may have data-protection rules different from those where you live.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page, and for material changes we will provide a more prominent notice. Your continued use of GasIQ after an update means you accept the revised policy.
Governing law
This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
